Information and Reminders:

*Please make sure to return all of the paperwork that was sent home. It is very important that we receive this information as soon as possible to ensure we have you contact information and information about your child.

* We continue to spend time this week reviewing procedures and rules that will be in place throughout the school year.

** Parent Night is Tuesday, August 30 at 6:30pm. We will meet in my classroom to discuss rules, procedures and second grade activities. Please plan ahead for childcare.

*In order to stick with our “Green” theme we would like to begin sending this newsletter by email instead of a paper copy. Please complete the form that has been sent home and return.  Thank you if you have already completed!

*Please remember to use the pink name cards when picking children up in the car line.  It makes the line run more effectively and efficiently!

Classroom Wish List: Construction paper (all colors), colored postcards, sticky tack, stickers, paper plates, ribbon, yarn, beads, any creative decorating supplies.  We are also in desperate need of hand sanitizer. Thanks you so much for any classroom donations.

Spelling:

Our first spelling list is coming home today. Please notice that there are fourteen spelling words to practice this week. Students should know how to spell these words. On the back of this sheet you will find a list of their High Frequency Words. These words only need to be read, students do not need to know how to spell these! We will have our spelling test Friday morning. We do not require spelling homework to be turned in. Please make sure your child is spending time on spelling practice during the week.

Reading:

We will start nightly reading homework this week. Children should be reading about 20 minutes every night. Each student has a reading log that will be checked daily.  Please make sure that you sign and date what book they have read each day.  Improving reading skills are beneficial within all subjects. Thanks for your help J

Math:

We have started our math routine. This week we are reviewing basic addition and subtraction problems. Math homework will begin next week. It will be sent everyday, Monday – Thursday, and returned the following day.  We will check our homework together each day.

Social Studies
