We use the Great Habits, Good Readers reading program. The program focuses on using read-aloud, phonics, vocabulary, and guided reading to provide your child with a balanced literacy curriculum. Your child will participate daily in learning centers which will allow them to practice skills taught and cooperate in a group. They will also recieve small group reading instruction based on their skills and needs.
For writing, we use a Writer's Workshop format. Students will be taught to write from their heart and experiences in many ways. Some units are; small moments, reading for writers, non-fiction and poetry. Similar to our reading program, writing instruction will be driven by both classroom and individual student's needs using both whole group and small group instruction.
