Welcome Heron Families!
Welcome to the Huntingtown Counseling website! Here you will find information on classroom guidance lessons, school-wide activities related to the guidance curriculum, and other helpful information for you and your child(ren). Just use the menu options at the top of the page. This site will be updated periodically to provide additional information on relevant topics as they arise throughout the school year - so be sure to come back again!
My name is Kristin Finegan and I am so excited to join HES this school year! For the past four years I have been the school counselor at Mutual Elementary and look forward to start my next chapter at Huntingtown. Prior to working in Calvert County, I worked closely with special education students in Howard County for two years. I also completed my B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with a Minor in Psychology and my M.Ed. in Elementary School Counseling at Penn State. During this time I was able to complete my internship at Centre Hall Elementary in the Penns Valley Area School District. Since then I have developed a cohesive guidance program for students that includes:
- Individual counseling
- Small group counseling (lunch bunches)
- Classroom guidance
- School-wide activities
- Career Day
- Red Ribbon Week
- Random Acts of Kindess Week
- Unity Day
- Anti-bullying groups
- Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Initiatives
How Can Students Meet with Me?
Parents, staff, and even students themselves can request that I speak with a particular child about a variety of social/emotional, behavioral, and academic reasons. Our staff is very flexible and understanding and allow students to visit my office when appropriate during the school day. My office is also easy for students to find since it is in the main office right by the front door! If I am not in my office when a student comes to talk, I remind them to leave me a note; that way I know they stopped by and can to talk to them at a later time.

Can't wait to make this a great school year!
