Dear families,

Welcome to 5th grade Math!  My name is Ms. Meyer, and I am really excited to see all the growth that will take place with your child throughout the year.

As you know, students are expected to memorize their multiplication facts in order to be successful for the rest of the year in math.  Attached to this letter are all the times tables students need to know.

Students take a 100 multiplication fact test every Wednesday and they are expected to complete it in 5 minutes.  Beginning next week, and each Wednesday after, their grades on this fact quiz will count as a quiz grade.  Your child needs to be able to pass this test with an 80% or higher by Friday, December 2ndStudents will also be able to put their name on a Multiplication Masters Wall if they score 90% or above on their quiz.

Below are some ways you can help your child study:

  1. Make (or buy) flashcards.  You may also check out flashcards from the school.
  2. Have your student skip count the first 12 numbers of each number 1-12.

Example:  3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36

  1. Use resources on the internet:

Please reach out to me with any questions you have about this process.  My number is 919-604-0993, and my email is jmeyer@kingscollegiate.org.

Please sign the form below so that I know that you have received this letter.

Thank you for all you do in order to ensure your child’s success in math!

Sincerely,

Ms. Meyer
