HOME LEARNING PACKETS WILL OFFICIALLY START IN SEPTEMBER
Please adhere to the directions on the front of the cover to complete each assignment as assigned on a daily basis.
STUDENTS ARE TO COMPLETE ALL THEIR I-READY ACTIVITIES ON A DAILY BASIS AS ASSIGNED ON THE HOME LEARNING COVER SHEET. MAKE SURE TO WRITE THE LESSON SKILL COMPLETED ON THE FORM FOR EACH SUBJECT AS WELL AS THE SCORE THEY RECEIVED. I WILL NOT GIVE CREDIT IF THIS IS NOT FILLED OUT CORRECTLY.
ESOL LEVEL 1 STUDENTS ARE THE ONLY STUDENTS EXEMPT FROM COMPLETING I-READY READING THEY MUST WORK ON IMAGINE LEARNING FOR READING. THEY STILL MUST COMPLETE THE I-READY MATH ON THE DAY IT IS ASSIGNED
I-Ready on line home learning will not begin until all students have completed their I-Ready Diagnostic Test in class. We will inform parents when students are to begin doing their I-Ready lessons at home.
EVERY TUESDAY THEY WILL WRITE THEIR SPELLING WORDS 3 TIMES AND EVERY THURSDAY THEY WILL WRITE THEIR SPELLING WORD IN A SENTENCE.
WE ARE AWARE STUDENTS MAY NOT KNOW HOW TO WRITE SPECIFIC WORDS CORRECTLY THEY ARE TO WRITE PHONETICALLY (MEANING THEY WILL WRITE THE LETTERS THAT REPRESENT THE SOUNDS THEY HEAR. THEY CAN ALSO DRAW PICTURES.) AS THEY LEARN HF WORDS THEY WILL BE EXPECTED TO USE THEM IN WRITING THEIR SENTENCES. PARENTS ALL YOU WILL NEED TO DO IS ASK THEM TO READ WHAT THEY WROTE AND THEN TRANSCRIBE THAT UNDER THEIR SENTENCE. DO NOT WRITE THE SENTENCES FOR YOUR CHILD. YOU MAY ALSO DICTATE A SENTENCE FOR THEM USING THE ASSIGNED WORDS AND HAVE YOUR CHILD ATTEMPT TO WRITE IT INDEPENDENTLY.
FOR EXAMPLE: CHILD WROTE "I C A BT." (CHILD MAY EVEN DRAW THE BOAT INSTEAD OF ATTEMPTING TO WRITE IT).
PARENT WILL ASK CHILD TO READ IT AND UNDERNEATH THEIR CHILD'S SENTENCE THE PARENT WILL WRITE: "I SEE A BOAT."
MAKE SURE SENTENCES BEGIN WITH A CAPITAL LETTER, SPACE BETWEEN THEIR WORDS, AND USE THE CORRECT PUNCTUATION MARK AT THE END OF THE SENTENCE.
WE WILL EVENTUALLY ASSESS STUDENTS ABILITY TO WRITE A DICTATED SENTENCE ON THEIR OWN IN CLASS. THIS IS WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT THEY WRITE THEIR SENTENCES FOR HOMEWORK ON THEIR OWN AND THE PARENT HAVE THEM READ IT BACK TO YOU. THIS WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT LETTER SOUNDS YOU CAN HELP YOUR CHILD OUT WITH AT HOME AND IF THEY ARE BEGINNING TO LEARN THEIR SPELLING AND HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS.
When writing letters and their name, make sure they are writing on the correct lines. The ONLY capital letters in their name is their first initial from first name and first initial from their last name. All other letters are lower case.
Make sure to complete additional Phonics pages as assigned and/or reading assignments as well as all math assignments that have been assigned for the week.
Make sure to review the packet over the weekend and place it back in their yellow folder so that I can pick it up on Monday, unless otherwise noted.
