6th grade Social Studies Syllabus


In this class, the student will be learning about the geography, history, governments, and economics of these locations: Europe and Russia, Australia, Canada, and Latin America (Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, and South America).


At the end of each unit, the student should be familiar with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Social Studies.

  1. Locate on a map the major physical and political features of the unit and explain the culture of the unit.
  2. Discuss the main ideas of the history of the unit along with the conflicts and changes that have occurred there.
  3. Compare and contrast the various governments of the unit and explain how citizens are allowed to participate in their government.
  4. Analyze different economic systems of the unit and explain how these different economic systems in the various units work together to form a global world.


  • Attend and participate in class regularly.
  • Follow directions. Once in class, write in agenda. Students are to be seated before the tardy bell rings.
  • Display a positive attitude. Respect yourself and others.
  • Come to class prepared. Have the proper materials.
  • Ask questions when needed.
  • Use the restroom before or after class---not during class.

  • Social Studies binder with tabs
  • Social Studies book
  • Notebook paper (wide ruled preferred)
  • Agenda

Make-up Work:

  • Students are responsible for obtaining any missed assignment and turning it into the teacher.
