What is Sports Medicine?

Sports Medicine is a section of health care that applies medical and scientific knowledge to prevent, recognize, manage, and rehabilitate injuries related to sports, exercise and recreational activities.  

What is an Athletic Trainer?

An Athletic Trainer specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of muscle and bone injuries and illnesses, and is educated in emergency care for catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord injuries, sudden cardiac arrest, heat illness and concussions. Working under the direction of a licensed physician (Dr. Sally Harris, MD at PAMF), and in cooperation with other healthcare providers, athletic trainers and recognized as allied health professionals by the American Medical Association (AMA) and must meet the qualifications set by a state regulatory board and/or the National Board of Certification, Inc.   

About Ms. Myers

This course is taught by Korinn Myers, a graduate of San Jose State University with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training.
