All AVID and Honors English classes are currently reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.  We started reading it over the weekend and students are expected to stay on top of their reading!  If you fall behind, you will be failing!  I promise!  There are occasional "pop" reading checks so I can see that you are keeping up with the reading.

Sept. 23-28

Chapters 1-3 read on your own and fill out your vocabulary rating scale for chapters 1 and 2.

Sept. 29

Finish reading Chapter 4 at home and fill out the vocabulary rating scale for chapters 4 and 5.  You only have to do the first 3 words tonight.  We will finish the rest of the chart Thursday.

Sept. 30

Discuss chapter 4 and write about the best summer you have ever had.  By doing this, we will make connections with the novel.

October 1

Begin discussing dialectical journals.  I will show you how to do them as we begin reading Chapter 5 in class.  Your homework will be to finish reading Chapter 5, fill out your journal and complete your vocabulary rating scale.

October 2

We will discuss the novel thus far, check our vocabulary for chapters 1-5, and begin reading chapter 6.  You will also share your dialectical journals in class so make sure you have them done!  Your homework over the weekend will be to read Chapters 6 and 7 and complete 1 dialectical journal for each chapter.
