Behavior Plan

What is our discipline system?

As a teacher and a parent I believe that all children should feel safe in their school and classroom.  If a child is not comfortable in their environment, then they are unable to learn.   I have set up a classroom behavior system to establish a positive environment and teach kids to make good choices.  I feel that each child is capable of making good choices.  In my classroom there will be a list of choices that we should make at school. Also, there will be a list of consequence if good choices are not made.  Each child deserves the opportunity to learn and I will make sure this is enforced in my classroom.

How does this system work?

Everyone will begin each day with a happy face.  Children who make a poor choice will first be given a verbal warning.  If a child makes another poor choice they will receive a straight face and will be given time to think about their choice and how to correct it. A teacher/student conference will be held to discuss this choice, why it was made, and what a better choice would have been.  If the child continues to make poor choices then a sad face will be obtained. The child will again be given time to think about his/her choice and have a teacher/student conference.  Also, a parent note will be sent home for you to sign and return to school.  If a child receives three sad faces in a week, I will contact you for a parent/teacher conference.

A child who has made a poor choice in the morning should not be punished throughout the entire day. Therefore, if a child has a sad face they will have the opportunity to redeem themselves and move back to a happy face.   I will mark your child’s daily behavior on the calendar.  This calendar must be initialed each night and returned to school.

What are the Good Choices?

  1. I choose to speak at appropriate times.
  2. I choose to sit in my seat during class time.
  3. I choose to walk in line quietly.
  4. I choose to respect others and their things.
  5. I choose to do my class work.

What are the rewards for making good choices?

If a child remains on a happy face for an entire week, then he/she will have a special treat on Friday afternoon.
