Parenting Tips and Ideas
- Routine/Schedule- Try to develop and stick to a daily routine for your child. Examples include what time your child wakes up or goes to bed, what he or she does after school and before bed time.
- Healthy Living Try to add some daily exercise for your child...a daily walk.. play time in the backyard...a visit to a park on the weekend..any activity is great!
- Reading/Literacy- Have books and magazines for your child in a place he or she has access to. Read books to your child. Let your child see you reading for enjoyment as well! Ask questions about what he or she has read. For example, you could ask what the book was about and what their favorite part was.
- Math- Have your child see real math being used in the real world. For example, in the kitchen help your child measure out ingredients for a recipe. At the grocery store, help your child weigh fruits and vegetables on the scale. In a store, help your child count out dollars and change to pay for something. This is real-world application that can really help your child learn basic math skills.
