About Mrs. Cirucci
Mrs. Cirucci holds a
Bachelor of Science
degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Biology and Psychology, a teaching certificate from Kutztown University, a
from Wilkes University in Classroom Technology and finally a
from Indiana University. Prior to teaching at Broughal, she taught at Dieruff High School. This will be Mrs. Cirucci’s fourteenth year at Broughal Middle School. She will be teaching 5 sections of eighth grade science and 1 section of seventh grade science.
The eighth grade curriculum focuses on Earth science. During the course of the year, the students will learn basic concepts and skills which relate to the Earth: layers of the earth, plate tectonics, seismology, volcanoes, weathering, erosion, alternative energy, climate change, varves, density, salinity, rivers, oceans and much more!
The seventh grade curriculum focuses on Life science. During the course of the year, the students will learn basic concepts and skills such as: cells, heredity, diversity of life, ecology, ecosystems, carbon and water cycles and much more!
: Homework is given as a way to check for student understanding and to reinforce the material that is covered in class. Homework is given 2-3 times a week.
: Quizzes will be given periodically within each major unit. They will cover such items as vocabulary, reading assignments, labs and lecture material.
: Tests will be given at the end of each major topic. They will consist of short answer and essay questions in a format consistent with the National Science standards.
: Laboratory experiments will be done frequently throughout the year. All lab experiments must be written up in a lab report. Safety and the scientific method will be stressed during lab experiments.
: Students are expected to follow all directions that are given during group projects. All students will have an assignment within a group and will be assessed individually.
: Each student is responsible for having a three ring binder in which they will keep all of their science papers. The students must maintain their notebook at all times. Papers will be stapled together at the end of each unit and turned in for a grade. These will be graded for neatness, completeness and organization.
: Each student is held accountable for their participation throughout the course. The participation grade counts toward the overall grade. Students will be graded on behavior, active involvement in the lessons, ability to follow directions and improvement throughout the year.
: Students will be graded on a percentage scale. The following scale will be used:

: Any student is welcome to stay before or after school to receive help with their work. However, it is the responsibility of the student to make the appointment with the teacher and to notify their parent that they will be arriving home late.
