What's Going On

Welcome Back! We have had a great week so far. I hope the trend continues for the next 38 days....that's right, only 38 days left! We have been working on a research project with Mrs. Dunna-Murrish our Media Specialist. The kids are finishing up the planning stages and are starting to record and publish their work. I will send each of you a link to your students video as they finish. They have worked really hard and it shows.
Grades 3-6 are beginning FSA testing this week and it will continue through the end of April with make up testing in May.

TenMarks Math Madness
By now, hopefully, your child has mentioned TenMarks for Math. I know some of you have already been playing it at home as well. This is a web-based program created by Amazon that works on math skills with added games for success and hard work. Click on the above hyperlink to log in and see what its all about. They also have a contest going called Math Madness. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

We did a really cool exit slip today for penguins. An exit slip is a quick way for me to check for understanding on a topic we have been discussing. I showed video segments on penguins and then the students had to create and Instagram photo with a hash tag or caption to match their picture. They had such a great time and were very creative in their thinking.
We made a free hand mock of our own iPhone and Instagram account. Here is a template that we will be using in the future. Thank you Pinterest!!
I will try and post pictures tomorrow

We have been discussing weathering in science this week. We even conducted an experiment with vinegar and chalk. You can try this at home. Take small piece of chalk and add some vinegar to a container. Shake gently and watch pieces of the chalk dissolve!
I wanted to take a moment and discuss snack time. I am noticing more and more that the snacks the students are eating are becoming more like desserts, and at 8:45 in the morning that is too much sugar. We discussed some of the healthier options we could have; goldfish, crackers, fruit, veggies, yogurt, cheese, nuts, and many others. Now I am not saying don't send the snack cakes to school, but maybe we can save them for a dessert at lunch.
I hope everyone has a great and restful weekend. See you Monday.

I wanted to thank you all for your hard work with your child on their vocabulary parade costumes. It did not go unnoticed. I must say, our class costumes were the best by far!!! We had an actual water-craft, a foot soldier, lightening, our own illumination and even a smarty-pants who left a little bit of herself wherever she went. The kids really enjoyed going into the older classrooms and showing off their hard work.
As we reach the half-way point in the school year, I am noticing some less than great effort from some. Please remind your child that we still have a ways to go and they must still continue to work hard. We have gained a new student and lost some since before Christmas and we are continuing to work cooperatively together.
Please check back here often. I would like to change the view of this website and think of it more as our own classroom blog if you will. I will try and post once or twice a week about what we are doing.
Did you know you can check on your child's behavior using our Class Dojo App? I also post pictures to share with you as well. If you need your child's super secret code please let me know.
