Course Description:

In 8th grade, Family and Consumer Science is a 20 week course which meets every other day.  This course is taught using a “hands – on” approach utilizing, incorporating, and reinforcing math, science, reading, writing, and technology skills whenever possible.  The following topics may be covered:  Money Management, Consumerism, Career Exploration and Entrepreneurship, Parenting and Child Care, Clothing Management, and Personal Environment Management, Food Management and Nutrition

 

Teacher Cell Phone / Electronic Device / Ear Bud Policy

Cell phones /Electronic Devices / Earbuds are not allowed in school at all for 7th or 8th grade.  If a student is found with a cell phone, it will be taken and given to a school administrator, as outlined in the school student handbook.    

Grading:

Students’ work will be evaluated in the following way:

            20%       Classwork / Homework / Participation

            40%       Food Labs / Projects

            40%       Tests

Students missing a food lab will be given an alternate assignment.  Food labs cannot be re-created.   Late assignments will have 10 points deducted from assignment grade.

Supplies:

Students will need to bring a yellow binder (with 3 dividers) with them every day to class, along with their agenda.   They must have a blue or black ink pen or pencil and a supply of loose leaf paper.
