My name is Mandy Dement. I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education from The University of   Southern Mississippi with endorsements in Social Studies, Special Education, and Reading. (SMTTT!) I am currently working toward a Master of Education in Dyslexia Therapy at USM.

I am a lifelong resident of Columbia, MS, where I live with my husband and four sons. We have a constantly growing number of pets from dogs and cats to chickens and goats. Our home is always full of energy and laughter. I strive to bring the same energy to my classroom and dyslexia therapy sessions.

My goal as a teacher is first and foremost to establish a safe learning environment for students where they feel their voice is valued and encouraged. I have always loved school, and my aim is to teach my students to love reading and to have fun learning. I believe that reading is a gift that allows us to visit new places, see new things, explore new perspectives, and create a world of opportunities for ourselves.

I teach second grade at East Marion Elementary. I also provide dyslexia therapy services to struggling readers. I have been trained in the Dubard Association Method for dyslexia therapy through the Dubard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi, which is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council.
