The sphinx of Giza is a symbol that has represented the essence of Egypt for thousands of years. The Sphinx has the head of a man and the body of  a Lion. It symbolizes strength and wisdom. The Sphinx is known as the guardian of Giza.The face of the Sphinx is a portrait of the king Khafre. The name of the Sphinx means strangler.It was formed in Egypt as a sun god there are also Sphinxes with the head of a ram that is associated with the god amun. The Sphinx faces the rising sun with a temple in the front that resembles the sun. The Sphinx is made of soft sandstone and would have disappeared long ago if it was not buried for so long. The body is 200 feet in length and is 65 feet tall.The faces of the Sphinx is 13 feet wide and its eye’s are 6 feet high.The  Sphinx used to have a ritual beard it is displayed in the British  Museum. The statue is crumbling today because of the wind humidity and smog coming from cairo.People have tried to restore it but it has done more harm than good.No one can figure out who the statue is to personally.
