How to Use Google Docs

Google Docs

What is it?
A document creation and sharing application through Google. This allows you to:
• View class presentations & teacher-created handouts
• Create documents to use from any internet location
• Share documents with classmates during group projects from different locations
• Share documents with teacher for proofreading and/or grading
• Types include: spreadsheets, word documents, presentations, PDFs, and more!
• Also for email and chat communication for EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY!
 

Who can use it?
• Anyone with an internet connection. It’s EASY!
 

When is it used?
• Class presentations
• Papers which are required to be typed
• Communication
 

Where can it be used?
• Anywhere with an internet connection.
 

Why is it used?
• Reduce paper usage
• Eliminate problems with printing, file loss, or compatibility
• Receive more effective comments on your work
• “Timeless” classroom experience
• College-type classroom communication
 

How it is accessed?
1. Get a gmail account. This is done IN CLASS with teacher approval on google ID.
2. Click on “documents” in the upper left portion of gmail screen
3. If creating an document, click on “create new” and choose the type of document. Documents will automatically save.

4. To share, click on “share” and indicate who you would like to share with by inputting his or her email address. (ONLY SCHOOL APPROVED EMAIL ADDRESSES! Only share when instructed to by the teacher.) Indicate whether you want shared user to be able to edit the document or just view it.

Things to remember:
• This is for school use only, not to chat or email with friends.
• All documents are time-stamped. This means I can see each and every change you make including cutting and pasting. Do your OWN work and do it ON TIME!
• Chat is a great feature, but only if used appropriately. This is for communication with the instructor OR with a team member if you are working on a project. NOT for PERSONAL USE.
• Email is a great way to communicate with team members or with the instructor.
• Anyone abusing the use of this application, will face consequences including, but not limited to, loss of points, parental contact, meeting with administration, loss of privileges, etc.
