Course Description:
The Workplace and Apprenticeship pathway meets the needs of students intending to pursue careers in the trades and general workplace. This course is pre-requisite to Workplace and Apprenticeship Mathematics 30.
In order to take Workplace and Apprenticeship Mathematics 20, students must have passed Workplace and Apprenticeship Mathematics 10.
Chapter Topics Weight Timeline
- Slope and rate of change 10% 2 wks
- Graphical representations 10% 2 wks
- Surface area, volume and capacity 15% 2 wks
- Trigonometry of right triangles 15% 2 wks
- Scale representations 10% 2 wks
- Financial services 10% 2 wks
- Personal Budgets 10% 2 wks
- Analysis of puzzles and games integrated in all chapters
Final Exam 20%
-Each chapter or unit may consist of a test 80%, project 10%, assignments 5% and quizzes 5%. Ongoing assessment and homework will be given consideration.
-A scientific calculator is required.
-All work designated for a chapter must be completed prior to the chapter test.
-Tests not completed on the scheduled date must be rescheduled with the teacher.
-One rewrite from any chapter will be permitted, towards the end of the semester to improve the overall mark.
-Throughout this course every opportunity will be taken to incorporate the SSDEC initiatives of Literacy (word wall, read-along etc), Numeracy (mental math and estimation), IT (calculators and spreadsheets), Career Development (occupations involving math) and Dene Kede.
