Note From Mr. Jones 

Please continue to do your best, I am pleased thus far with the way we are progressing through our semester.  As we finish up our block on the Great Depression I would like to thank all of those who brought in family artifacts and told their families' stories.  All of this helps us to link ourselves with our past.  One thing we cannot forget is the experiences of our past and how they effect the decisions of our future.  With today's economy in limbo I ask you to think about how the decisions made in the Great Depression have had an effect on the decisions made today and tomorrow regarding our economy.  As we head into our unit on World War II, Please ask your family who were around then what it was like, what was the home front like, what kind of things did you go without?  I think you will be surprised to find all that people sacrificed both at home and overseas to win the war.  Your challenge for our discussion on Friday is to find out what a day in the life of a high school student was like during World War II.  What were their feelings towards the war, what were their sacrifices?  What did they eat at lunch, what were they studying in school, dig deep.  Surprise me people; I'll see you on Monday.

Canned Food Drive

Please continue to bring in canned foods for the Canned Food drive.  So far we have had a large turn out and believe we can reach our goals.  All food will be donated to the homeless shelter on 15th Street and will be greatly appreciated by those less fortunate in the community.  All donations must be in by 23 OCT 2009.

Next Weeks Assignments 

Next week we will begin our Unit on World War II.  We will discuss the events going on in Asia and Europe before the War as well as the building momentum of Japan and Germany which leads to World War II.  On Thursday we will begin our look at Pearl Harbor and Friday we will begin looking at the North African Campaign.  Any and all discussion pieces are welcome such as old pictures of relatives, gear, uniforms, within reason and within school policies.
