My Teaching - Teaching Philosophy

"Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one."
Malcolm Forbes, in Forbes Magazine

Education plays an important role in our life.  It will enrich our mind and increase our potential.  In order to maximise the effect of education, teachers need to facilitate students' learning.

I believe learning additional languages can be a key to broaden our view.  This belief comes from what I have experienced through learning my second language.  Learning an additional language enabled me to interact with new people who have completely different culture and ideas.  This is a great experience and I would like to be the one who helps students open the door to a new world.

However, learning a language is not easy, and it sometimes demotivates students.  As a teacher, I think one of the important jobs is supporting students who have difficulties to understand and are demotivated.  In order to help them, knowing the actual problem they have is quite important.  So I always try to consider students’ position and think about what the best way for them would be.  Even the same thing can be taught in a different way with different students.  I would like to be flexible and explore an effective way in my teaching.  Most importantly, I would like to have respect for students.

"Hold faithfulness and sincerity as first principles."

Confusius, The Confucian Analects
Chinese philosopher & reformer (551 BC - 479 BC)
