Safe & fun diving in Komodo National Park

The Komodo diving is famous for being challenging. The area is quite affected to the currents running through every day but that is also what makes the diving in Komodo so amazing to experience. But it does also put pressure on being strict when it comes to safety. Even though you’ve experienced diving with currents or not we all know that it comes with certain risks. That’s why we really care about conducting safe diving where ever we go on our boat trips in Komodo. Before every trip we have a proper safety briefing to go through all safety procedures including what we do if we get separated from our group & what happens if the diving staff judges that the conditions are not safe enough.

But since the currents is what brings in all the amazing underwater creatures to Komodo, that’s also where you want to be diving. On our daytrips & budget liveaboard in Komodo we always conduct a current check before every dive. This helps us to get a better idea of where we want to jump in the water but also how strong the current is and what we conditions we can expect underwater. Because when we’re diving in Komodo we want to do as little effort as possible. That means if there is a current hitting the reef or the dive site we jump in the water so that we can drift with the current. Our dive guides is always prepared for current and they have been diving this area for a long time. If we suddenly feel the current changing direction, we also try to change so we don’t have to fight it. Some dive sites are famous for currents, like batu bolong and castle rock, so on these sites we’re extra careful when we dive.

But we think that if you are prepared and a competence diver and we provide to prior to the dive with all knowledge you need to know, diving in currents isn’t that scary, it’s actually fun & an amazing feeling!  We can almost guarantee that diving in Komodo national park will actually make you a better diver. You will get more understanding about currents and get more confident after being exposed to it.
