Follow the steps below to complete the unit.

1. Read through the information on this web page (Art Foundations- Element of Design: Valuefill out the study guide as you read.

 

2. Read through the information on this PDF file (Understanding Value and Tone for Better Paintingfill out the study guide as you read.

 

3.  Watch this video (Understanding Values)  and fill out the study guide as you go.

 

4.  Complete the Understanding Values Worksheet that is based on the video in step three. (The worksheet is on the art cart) KEEP THIS IN YOUR FOLDER!

 

5.  Watch this video (Shading Lessons: Learn How to Draw Shades – How To Shade – Fine Art Tips) and fill out the study guide as you go.

 

6. On a clean sheet of paper recreate these drawings from the video in step five.  (Drawings from Shading Lessons Video). Use a pencil. Fill the paper. Use the techniques from the video in step 5. Do your best. Turn in your drawings. 

 

7. On a clean sheet of white paper choose one of the images in this link (Value Drawing Ideas) to recreate. Use a pencil. Fill the paper. Use the techniques from the video in step 5. Do your best. Turn in your Drawing. 

 

8.  Watch this Video (Basic Oil Pastel Techniques: Rule of 3’s )and fill out the study guide as you go.

9. Pick up a Oil Pastel Practice worksheet, a newspaper, and some oil pastels.  Put the newspaper down to protect the table, and put your worksheet and pastels on the newspaper. Watch the video from step 8 again (Basic Oil Pastel Techniques: Rule of 3’s ) and fill in the worksheet as you go.  The video only gets you started on the worksheet, you will need to finish it yourself. Use the rule of 3's. Turn in the completed worksheet, throw away the newspaper, and return the pastels to the art cart. 

10. Pick up a half-sheet of brown Oil Pastel Paper, a newspaper, and some oil pastels. Select an oil pastel example from the link (Oil Pastel Example) to recreate.  FILL THE PAGE WITH COLOR! USE THE RULE OF 3'S! Do your best! Turn in your finished work!
