Governments In Oceania Timeline

For example 2011 CE ****                 500 CE -Feudalism- An Island would have a government ruled by many chiefs.  1840 CE - Colonialism-   Superpowers like Britain, France and the United States took over islands in the Pacific for natural resources like coffee, sugar and rubber.    1888 CE- Protectorate-One of the superpowers (Britain, France, or the United States) would protect it from the other two superpowers but not take control of the island. They would protect the island only.  1951 CE- Trust Territory - After world War II the United Nations gave the United States the responsibility of caring for the following islands The Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, the Marianas, and the Carolines and they called the arrangement the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands.   1970 CE - Independent - Colonial Powers gave the islands back their independence. Fiji became an Independent Republic and Tonga became an Independent Kingdom (Monarchy).   

1986 CE- Free Association-  In Free-association a big country provides military protection, economic assistance (money, education, and jobs) to a small island in exchange for operating a military base on the island.
