Welcome to my classroom website
My name is Mike Nametz and I teach a moderate/severe all autism class with the focus on
social, behavior, and communication skills.
Unique Learning System (ULS) and Edmark are the primary academic curriculm systems
that I use in my classroom. Functional academics is also a primary focus that is
implemented everyday in the classroom and out in the community. Functional Edmark programs teaching
community signs, money, and restaurant signs are implemented into the daily curriculum.
Individual and small group instruction is the main source of instruction. Whole group instruction is used when
introducing a new topic.
Why Do I Teach?
When I graduated High School I knew I would go to college, but was unsure of the direction I wanted to go in regard to my career.
I attended a Community College and then Cal State University Long Beach, where I graduate with a Bachelors in Communication Studies.
I started working as an Instructional Assistant in an Emotionally Disturbed Middle School class and fell in love with it.
This lead me to going back to school to get my moderate/severe teaching credential and Masters in Education.
I have been teaching for the past five years and have loved every minute of it.
I hope to have a long and fulfilling career in this career that I have a great passion for.
