My name is David Higgins, and I teach 3rd Grade at Hurlock Elementary School. This is my fourteenth year at H.E.S., having served in a variety of positions, including Student Assistant, Substitute Teacher, Kindergarten & Pre-K Instructional Assistant, 1st Grade Student Teacher, and 2nd Grade & 3rd Grade Classroom Teacher. I am a lifelong resident of Hurlock, Maryland and a product of Dorchester County Public Schools. I am a graduate of Salisbury University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts degree in English, as well as graduate certificates in TESOL from Salisbury University and K-12 Educational Leadership from Kaplan University. I am certified highly qualified by the Maryland State Department of Education in the following areas: Early Childhood Education (grades PreK-3), Elementary Education (grades 1-6), Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL grades PreK-12), and School Administrator I. During my tenure at the school I have received the Dorchester County Supporting Star Award (2003-2004) and was nominated for Dorchester County First Class Teacher of the Year (2007-2008). When I am not at school I enjoy watching crime shows; spending time with my wife, Nicole, and daughter, Camryn; walking around town with my dog, McCoy, and entertaining my cat, Serena.
