Course Overview


The eighth grade English curriculum continues to concentrate on building skills in reading, grammar, vocabulary, and written expression that are necessary for student success at this grade level and beyond. Literary genres that will be read include short stories, poetry, novels, and drama. The core reading pieces are Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix, Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick, The Diary of Anne Frank (play), and A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck. In coordination with the reading, students will complete a wide variety of writing assignments, including chapter questions, formal essays, creative stories, and poetry.
