My name is Raquel (Duran) Borrayo and I began my experience working with students as a high school student tutoring my teammates and peers. During summer months I would continue to volunteer with the City of Chino summer programs. From my experience, I became certain that I wanted to be a teacher.
Throughout college, I tutored younger family members and family friends in a number of subjects. As I visited schools and participated in many school activities, I began my journey of finding what I wanted to teach. Not until my last year, did I observe a special education classroom did I change my concentration to Education Specialist.
My teaching experience began in a private setting teaching pre-kindergarten for nearly six months. At the start of the next school year, I co-taught preschool until I had my daughter in April. My next teaching job was as an intern teacher with Los Angeles Unified teaching high school math and science. Being a new teacher, teaching this many subjects had its challenges but I am glad to have had this experience.
After two years, I decided to apply to positions closer to home. This past year I have been an RSP teacher for 7th grade prealgebra. I have enjoyed teaching a new age group and look forward to what is to come.
