BEHAVIOR: Your child is expected to follow the class and school rules. My class rules are:
- Always do your best.
- Stay on task.
- Follow directions.
- Be respectful.
- T.H.I.N.K. before you speak or act. (Ask yourself is it True, Honest, Inspiring, Necessary, or Kind?)
- Be organized and responsible.
- Raise your hand to be recognized.
- Use indoor voices.
These rules are posted in the room and will be discussed on the first day of school. If a student chooses to break a rule or not follow procedure the consequences are:
- Move a Clip to Yellow—Verbal Warning & 5 minutes of recess
- Move a Clip to Blue—Moves to Safe Seat & 5 more minutes of recess
- Move a Clip to Orange— Sent to Recovery Room & Note sent home
- Move a Clip to Red— Call Parents & Call parents
If your student’s behavior is such that it causes a distraction in learning or my teaching, he/she may be moved to another place in the room, to another classroom/Recovery Room (for a short time period), or removed to the office. Each child in my classroom has a right to learn and I have a right to teach. Disruptions will not be tolerated. If this becomes a problem, I will schedule a meeting with you and your child so that we can work out a plan. I would really appreciate your support on this. Together we can create a successful learning environment for everyone.
ASSIGNMENTS AND HOMEWORK: Students are required to be prepared each day with their work and materials. I will only accept work completed in pencil and/or black or blue ink.
Homework comes in four forms:
- Work not completed during the day,
- Work that needs to be made up (late assignments or missed because of an absence),
- Reading 20 minutes a night, and
- Class Projects
**All assignments are due the next day after they are given out unless other wise noted. If work is turned in by Friday, it will still receive full credit. Each Thursday, I will be sending a “Missing Work Note” home. It is to be signed by a parent or guardian and sent back by the next Friday. This report will show you what assignments your child is missing for the past week. Work completed after the due date will receive ½ credit if completed by the next Friday. After this time, the assignment will be entered as a zero. If a problem should occur such as an illness, vacation, etc., please contact me so that arrangements can be made. Work given out in class is expected to be turned in even if the student is absent on that day. If you are not receiving the Notes, please feel free to call me, email me, or come in and speak with me about it.
SUPPLIES: Following is a list of items your child may want to bring to class. Most of them are available in the classroom to share, but I find that most students like to have their own supplies that they can keep at their desk.
- Pencils and erasers
- Pencil sharpener
- Blue or black ink pens
- Glue stick (not liquid glue in a bottle)
- Crayons/ Colored Pencils
P.A.T.R.I.O.T FOLDERS: Every day your child will bring his/her home-school folder to and from school. One side of the folder will have items to “Keep at Home” and the other side will have items that need to “Return to School” (permission slips, homework, etc.). Please set up a routine for where your child should put their folder each evening so that you can look through it and return it to school the following day. It is essential that the folder gets turned in each day so that you can get notes/ information safely sent home.
Your child will be responsible for writing down homework assignments each day on their daily planner. This will be all classwork that was not completed throughout the day. Please be sure to check these daily and sign the bottom letting me know you have seen all notes and homework is complete.
ITEMS BROUGHT TO SCHOOL: I cannot be held responsible for items your child brings to school. Coats and backpacks will be kept on the coat racks in the classroom and the door is locked every time we leave the classroom. If your child doesn’t want an item stolen, broken, or taken away, they should leave it at home. If your child does have an electronic reading device ( Kindle, etc.) please be sure get a contract from the office to fill out in order to bring them to class.
BIRTHDAYS: If you plan on bringing a treat for your student’s birthday or ½ birthday (for our summer birthdays), please contact me so that we can set up a time that will not interfere with the learning process.
I am sure that as the year goes by, more items will need to be addressed. I will be sending home a monthly newsletter that will update you on anything that is going on in class. You may also visit our class website for updates.
