About Me

My name is Tricia Polchowski, and I have been working in the field of education for 28 years.  I taught kindergarten and first grade at St. Michael School, Newark,NY at the beginning of my career.  My next stop was at Palmyra-Macedon Middle School in Palmyra, NY.    My role was as the grade seven special education teacher.  I provided services as a consultant teacher, inclusion specialist, and resource room teacher.  In 2000 I moved to my current employer, Monroe #1 BOCES.  In my time at BOCES I have held many positions.  I was a special education teacher in their center-based programming site in East Rochester, NY.  My classes were made up of children with significant disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, developmental delays, and mental health conditions.  After 7 years as a classroom teacher at BOCES I earned my certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and I was the first one at Monroe #1 BOCES to do so.  I worked as a Behavior Specialist for 6 years in which I supported families, students, and staff in working with children with challenging behaviors.  After leaving that position I spend 1 year working the BOCES preschool with children who had developmental delays of various types.  I came to the Consultant Teacher and Tutoring Department at  BOCES 5 years ago.  During this time I have split my time with a variety of private schools (Trinity Montessori, Bishop Kearney, St. Joseph School) as well as providing home instruction to students who are medically fragile.  The last 2 years I have been assigned full time consultant teacher at St. Joseph's in Penfield.   I have also presented at the local, state, national, and international levels surrounding topics related to developmental disabilities, PBIS, autism, brain injuries/seizures, applied behavior analysis, and many more topics).

I am originally from North Tonawanda, NY, but have lived in Fairport,NY, for the last 24 years.  My husband, John, and I have two amazing children.  Our son, John, is 19 and has a variety of challenges.  Our daughter, Paige, is 15 and attends Fairport High School.  We have 2 dogs named, Oliver and Pepper.
