   Syllable Types

    Students will be learning how to decompose words to find meaning. These are the different syllable types and what they mean. 

Open- when the syllable endes with a vowel

                     This causes the vowel to be a long vowel sound.

Example:  hi, we, me,


Closed- when the syllable ends with a consonent

                          This causes the vowel sound to be short

Example:  hip, wed, met
