About Ms. Brown:

I was born and raised in the beautiful state of Vermont. When I was in 2nd grade I decide that I wanted to become a teacher, and since that day I have never wanted to be anything else. While I attended Otter Valley Union High School, I returned to Neshobe  Elementary School each day during my senior year to volunteer in what was my 2nd grade classroom, the same room in which I decided I wanted to be a teacher. After graduating from Otter Valley, I continued my education at Castleton State College.

While at Castleton State College I majored in Multidiscplinary Studies (Elementary Education) with a focus in History. I was also active in Residential Life by being a Community Advisor for 3 years. I completed my student teaching in 6th grade at Neshobe Elementary School. My experience in student teaching was unique due to the fact that my mentor teacher had been my 6th grade teacher!

I began my teaching career as kindergarten teacher here at Barstow Memorial School. I spent my first 4 years at Barstow teaching kindergarten. This will be my 5th year at Barstow, and I chose to take the opportunity of learning a new grade level and moving up to 3rd grade. This is a challenge that I could not be more exctied for.

I am currently enrolled at the College of St. Joseph's in the Master's in Reading program. I will complete my program of study in December 2010, at which time I will be elidge for the edorsement of Reading/English/Language Arts Specialist on my Vermont teaching license. I believe that continued education is a key factor in maintaining current teaching practices in my classroom, and I am excited to use the knowledge I have gained in my program to enhance the Language Arts program in my classroom.

My life outside of school consists mainly of spending time with my family and friends. I live in Chittenden, but spend a great deal of time in Whiting where the majority of my family lives. I especially enjoying spending time with my 2 year old twin nephews, Connor and Logan. On New Years Day 2010 ,my fiance, Jamie, proposed while snowmoblining on top of a mountain in Chittenden. We are planning a Summer 2011 wedding. I am very excited to begin the next phase of our lives together.

I believe in fostering a safe, caring, community in my classroom for each learner. I value the philosophy of Responsive Classroom, and use the elements of Responsive Classroom to help promote the sense of community in my classroom. I am truly blessed to have a "job" that I love, and each day I love coming to school. Thank you to all of the parents who provide me with the opportunity to work with their children each day!
