"HOW-TO" BOOK PUBLISHING PARTY
Students learned how to write how-to books after studying the features and structures of mentor texts. How-to books teach people how to do something step by step. Everyone thought of their own topics, things that they know how to do very well and can teach someone else to do. Student growth in writing was noted as there were more signs of phonetic spelling, use of high frequency words from the word wall, clearer penmanship, and more students were able to read their own writing independently. Also, several students who were more reserved on the previous book reading felt more confidence in sharing their work. I am proud of our progress and am looking forward to the next publishing party.
