About Ms. McGrew

Welcome to my website! I have been teaching for 9 years, all at Mary Jane Sims Elementary. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades and I have also been a Reading Coach. I am very passionate about Reading and teaching Reading and Writing.

I was born in St. Paul, MN and moved around ALOT growing up. I also lived in Austin, Freehold, NJ and London, England. I graduated from high school in Freehold, NJ and went to college in Tallahassee, FL at Florida A&M University in 1999 where I recieved a B.S. in Indrustrial Engineering. I recieved my M.Ed in Elementary Education from Southwest Texas State University (Texas State) in 2002. I am currently beginning my doctoral studies at Texas State University where I will be studing a PhD in School Improvement.

 I am very involved with learning how to be a better teacher and learning from professionals in AISD. I have participated in the Teacher Leadership Development cohort and also the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards cohort with AISD. I have Elementary grades 1-8 and Reading certifications, English as a Second Language (ESL) certification, and National Board: Middle Childhood Generalist certification.

 I love living in Austin with my dog Bailey. My parents live in Austin as well so it nice to be able to spend time with them. In my spare time I like to do scrapbooking and make greeting cards, read, watch movies, travel, listen to music, jazzercise, swim, and hang out with my friends. Here are some of my favorites:
