Course Description:

This course enables students to develop their understanding of basic concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics, and to relate science to technology, society, and the environment. Throughout the course, students will develop their skills in the processes of scientific investigation. Students will acquire an understanding of scientific theories and conduct investigations related to sustainable ecosystems; atomic and molecular structures and the properties of elements and compounds; the study of the universe and its properties and components; and the principles of electricity.

Tests are usually given at the end of a unit, with review the day before. Quizzes may be given at any time, with or without previous warning. If absent on the day of a test or quiz, the test/quiz will be written on the first day back to class. If the reason for absence is not a valid one, a zero may be assigned as the mark.


Laboratory investigations are an important part of this course and must be completed according to the outlined format. Assignments will vary in length and type. Assignments and lab reports must be handed in on the prescribed due date. Late assignments will be subject to a 10% per day deduction in the overall mark. If absent on the date of a deadline, a valid excuse must be provided to avoid a late penalty.


Homework will be assigned when necessary and is to be completed. It will be corrected in class the next day. Students are responsible for all work missed during any absence. When absent, students and parents may check my website for what was covered in class that day (

Classroom Rules:

Students are expected to adhere to the following rules:

1) Be on time and in your seat before the bell rings.

2) Be prepared with all books and materials.

3) Respect others.

4) Raise your hand.

5) Follow instructions the first time they are given.

All students are expected to behave in a mature and professional manner, contributing to the best of their abilities in every classroom activity.
