The Muscular System

 

Function: Provides movement in the body and in many cases works together with the Skeletal system

There are 3 types of muscles: Skeletal muscle, Smooth muscle and Cardiac muscle.

Types of Muscles

 

Skeletal: usually attached to bones, responsible for voluntary movement.

Smooth: responsible for involuntary movement; found in structure such as the stomach & intestines.

Cardiac: Found only in the heart.

 Tendons: are connective tissue that attach skeletal muscles to bones.
