Acceptable Technology Use Policy for students and parents to sign

An Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is an important document that governs students’ use of the internet at school and covers a wide range of issues surrounding the rights, responsibilities, and privileges – as well as sanctions – connected with computer use.

  • It covers all technology used by foundation users in performing their jobs including, for example, personal computers, mobile phones, and online services.
  • AUP must address all the stakeholders involved.  It should address acceptable and unacceptable online activity - encouraging positive endeavors while prohibiting bad choices.
  • Typically, the devices are to be used only for instructional purposes, pending approval by each school’s principal, and the specific classroom teacher

ASPECTS TO CONSIDER WHEN CREATING AN ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

  • Did you use clear easy to understand language?
  • Does it use positive language or list does and don'ts?
  • Does the AUP focus on student behavior instead of devices?
  • Does the AUP cover all your needs?
