Classroom Technology Rules

Classroom Technology Rules

In this day and age computers are an integral part of every classroom in some capacity. Because of the important involvement of technology in today’s classrooms it is very important to have clear, concise rules in place for the students. The use of technology in the classroom setting varies from class to class, grade to grade and student to student. Because of the varying use of computers it is important to have specific technology rules, basic classroom rules will not cover the situations that students will encounter. The use of these specific rules can help deter students from making bad choices and also to help keep them accountable for their actions when using technology. While we do need these rules in place we should also take responsibility as educators to make sure our students are educated on the proper use of technology and internet safety.

Educators should be held responsible to reviewing internet safety standards and the appropriate use of technology. Teachers may choose to cover these rules and standards on their own or use online resources to make sure their students can feel confident using their technology and computers. Parents should also be in the loop when addressing this topic and some form of documentation should be required to make sure everyone is on the same page and to have this as one more way to keep students, parents and teachers accountable for knowing and applying the rules appropriately.
