My name is Mike Timmins and I currently finished the Masters of Science in Teaching (MST) Program, at Le Moyne College. My concentration was in Childhood Education and Special Education.
I recently completed my Student Teaching experience at Le Moyne Elementary in a 2nd grade general education classroom in the Syracuse City School District and Wheeler Elementary in a 5th grade special education classroom in the Onondaga Central School District.
I maintained a 3.93 GPA during the time I took classes at Le Moyne College, before becoming a New York State certified teacher. Prior to Le Moyne College I received my bachelor’s degree from Lynn University in Behavioral Sciences where I was a student athlete and maintained a 3.1 GPA.
I have two years experience working as a substitute teacher in the general and special education environment. I like to spend my free time reading a good book, listening to music, working out, riding my mountain bike and coaching sports. I became a teacher because I have a strong passion for it!! I look forward to the challenge of fostering student’s successes that will ultimately affect the future of society in the most positive ways.
My Teaching Philosophy
Children are our future...
I believe that every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the classroom and eventually the world. I aim to achieve a strong connection with my students and a positive relationship with parents, community, faculty and staff. I will challenge myself to help my students develop to their fullest potential of learning in a fun, safe, positive and caring environment by incorporating a variety of teaching strategies. I will assist children in discovering who they are, so they can express their own opinions. I have a vision of a classroom where students learn to respect, accept, and embrace the “Differences” between us. It’s these “Differences” that is the core of what can make life so amazing. My role as the teacher is to give children the tools necessary to develop into great citizens and become independent and successful contributors to society. To accomplish this goal, I will teach to the needs of each child so that all learners can feel capable and successful. I place a high value on this extraordinary opportunity as a facilitator in the classroom…
