Hello! My name is Paige Baker, this is my 5th year at Youngstown State University, and I am majoring in Early Childhood Education. I will be graduating in the spring of 2018 with my teaching license. I am very excited and anxious for this semester to see how it goes and how I can develop in many different areas. My experience for field work this semester will be at Harding Elementary school in the second grade in Ms Valentini's classroom.
My goals as a future educator is to reach children where they are at in their lives to the best ability that I can. It is so important to be aware of the different levels that students are on academically, personally, and emotionally. As their teacher it is our job to make the environment around them a comfortable, peaceful atmosphere where they are excited to come to every morning. My goal is for the students to feel like they are "not at school" at some points of the day. I want to engage in hands on learning, motivating their interests, and pulling in their cultures to add diverse backgrounds to their classroom. I think that in doing this for my classroom some day it will help with assessing the students in their learning. When getting to know my students on a personal level, and engaging with them one on one, I will fully know how each of them can learn at their best abilities, and accept feedback after being assessed. This is when differentiating can take place, and this is one of the main goals I want to achieve for my classroom someday. I look forward to incorporating the different assessment with my students, and then providing different feedback methods with students to see which fits best for them.
