MY FAVORITE BOOKS

FANTASY

Gregor the Overlander is an action packed book with a mysterious prophecy, a missing father,

an adorable little sister and a world full of amazing creatures.

Most kids would do anything to pass the Iron Trial.  Not Callum Hunt. He wants to fail.

All his life, Call has been warned by his father to stay away from magic. If he succeeds at the Iron

Trial and is admitted into the Magisterium, he is sure it can only mean bad things for him. So he tries

his best to do his worst - and fails at failing. Now the Magisterium awaits him. It's a place that's both

sensational and sinister, with dark ties to his past and a twisty path to his future.

The Iron Trial is just the beginning, for the biggest test is still to come . . .

If you like Harry Potter, you will love the Iron Trial. It's full of magic and action.

Piper McCloud can fly. Sure, she hasn't mastered reverse propulsion and her turns are kind of sloppy,

but she's real good at loop-the-loops. Problem is, the good folk of Lowland County are afraid of Piper.

And her ma's at her wit's end. So it seems only fitting that she leave her parents' farm to attend a

top-secret, maximum-security school for kids with exceptional abilities. School is great at first with a

bunch of new friends whose skills range from super-strength to super-genius. But Piper is special,

even among the special. And there are consequences. Consequences too dire to talk about. Too crazy

to consider. And too dangerous to ignore.

REALISTIC FICTION

Each Little Bird that Sings is a heartwarming story of a friendship, growing up and tragedy. It will

make you laugh, cry and laugh again. This is one of my all time favorite books.

Counting by 7's is an amazing book about a girl who suffers a great tragedy and goes on to

survive and change the lives of many people in wonderful and amazing ways. This is one of my

 favorite realistic fiction books.

Bogie may be blind, but he can learn just about anything he sets his mind to.

He’s stunned when he hits at a driving range and finds he has the swing of a pro.

But blind golfing is a team sport, and Bogie needs a coach. Enter Birdie, the kooky

and mysterious girl next door. Then someone anonymously enters Bogie in a

golf tournament—with a million dollar prize.

One summer’s day, ten-year-old India Opal Buloni goes down to the local supermarket

for some groceries – and comes home with a dog. But Winn-Dixie is no ordinary dog.

It’s because of Winn-Dixie that Opal begins to make friends. And it’s because of Winn-Dixie

that she finally dares to ask her father about her mother.

HISTORICAL FICTION

I survived the Battle of Gettysburg, 1863 is an action packed book that follows a boy as he

 witnesses the Battle of Gettysburg.

Riding Freedom is a book about an orphan girl who runs away from the orphanage and has

amazing adventures, and it's based on a true story. If you like horses and stories about girls who

do amazing things, you'll love this book.

Based on a True Story- A Long Walk to Water begins as two stories about two eleven-year-olds in

Sudan, a girl in 2008 and a boy in 1985. The girl, Nya, is fetching water from a pond that is two

hours’ walk from her home. The boy, Salva, becomes one of the "lost boys" of Sudan. Enduring

every hardship from loneliness to attack by armed rebels to contact with killer lions and

crocodiles, Salva is a survivor, and his story goes on to intersect with Nya’s in an astonishing and

 moving way.

MYSTERY

Don't judge this book by its cover. This book is so good! The main character, Florian, is super smart and

has the amazing ability to find clues and solve mysteries that even the best FBI agents can't solve.  This

book is fast paces and funny, too! I just love it. Read this book and Florian will amaze you, too.

DYSTOPIAN

The Unwanteds is about a future world where the government decides who is important enough to live

and contribute to society, and who is "unwanted".

SCIENCE FICTION

The Angel Experiment is an action packed story about kids who have been genetically altered in an

evil lab called the school. The kids have escaped the "school", but now they are being hunted. When

one of them is kidnapped and taken back to the school, the rest of the kids will do anything to get

her back. This is my favorite science fiction book. It is such a fast read, and every chapter is only three

pages. You need to read this book!

The Resisters is an action packed science fiction book that reads like a video game, in fact it was

written by Eric Nylund who wrote the video game, Halo. In this book, the characters get to climb into

giant, robotic insect suits and battle to save the world. It's an amazing book!

Ten-year-old Nathan Abercrombie is having a really bad day. First, Shawna Lanchester,

the prettiest girl in his class, doesn't invite him to her party. Then he gets picked last in gym class.

Things couldn't get any worse…until he gets doused with an experimental serum that turns him

into a half-dead zombie!

GHOST STORY

family who moves into her home seems not to notice her, except for the young children. Susie likes

children. She even likes baby-sitting, but can she baby-sit forever? Why can't she get anyone else's

 attention?

Twelve-year-old Molly and her ten-year-old brother, Michael, have never liked their seven-year-old

stepsister, Heather. Ever since their parents got married, she's made Molly and Michael's life

miserable. Now their parents have moved them all to the country to live in a house that used to

be a church, with a cemetery in the backyard. If that's not bad enough, Heather starts talking to a

ghost named Helen and warning Molly and Michael that Helen is coming for them. Molly feels

certain Heather is in some kind of danger, but every time she tries to help, Heather twists things

around to get her into trouble. It seems as if things can't get any worse.
