About Me

My name is Phillip Chevalier (Chev-al-yee) and I will be your humanities teacher for this school year. Humanities is the combination of English/Language Arts and the social sciences or social studies as it is more commonly referred to. This year, we will read several core novels, engage in numerous book discussion groups, read numerous fiction and non-fiction works, read, write, and analyze poetry, participate in Writer's Workshop, and so much more! In social studies, we will study the ancient civilizations of South Asia, Southeast Asia, far East Asia, Greece, and Rome. We will study geography, history, culture, religion, economics, government, and contributions to civilization. I promise that there will be a hive of activity surrounding our studies here.

I have been teaching at both public and private schools and have taught kindergarten, fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth, and now seventh grade for about 20 years. Prior to that, I was employed as a global marketing executive in a Fortune 500 firm. I have traveled to many places around the world marketing contact lenses, solutions, and other eye care products. I have also had the opportunity to travel extensively for both pleasure and humanitarian efforts. I speak French, Spanish, Italian, and a bit of Hebrew.

I have been married for 28 years to my wife, Jianping, and together we have two grown children. Our oldest son, Joshua, graduated from Boston University with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. He completed the program in only six years while playing lacrosse on their first Division I team! Our daughter, Jade, also graduated from Boston University with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics Science and is now a Registered Dietitian. She is currently completing a Master's Degree in Kinesthetics and Exercise Physiology. She is working in a hospital setting and with professional and amateur athletes and hopes to make this a full-time career.  I am the proudest dad on the planet!

Our family is complete with our Cavapoo dog, Sadie, our 20-year-old, Oriental shorthair cat, Snowflake, and my grand-cat, Simba  (my daughter's adopted pet). I am passionate about organic gardening, cooking, exercise, hockey, soccer, equestrian, painting, reading, traveling, and of course, teaching. I had the distinct pleasure to have been the first American who taught in Shanghai-Pudong China. Overall, I can honestly say that I have lived the most blessed life.
