Purpose of Professional Development

Professional Development (PD) for teachers in New Jersey is required by law.  Every teacher (with few exceptions) is required to complete 100 hours of PD over a 5 year period and must maintain a plan, known as a Professional Improvement Plan (PIP) or Professional Development Plan (PDP), to ensure that each teacher maintains a PD focus that is monitored by administration.

PD helps teachers develop new skills such as collaboration and teamwork as well as improving content knowledge and instructional techniques and strategies.
Our modern approach to PD becomes a continuous process that is:
  • Data & results driven - so that PD is proven
  • Standards based - so that PD meets state educational goals
  • Adult learner-friendly - so that PD is effective
