Diagnostic Assessment-Diagnostic assessment occurs at the beginning of the teaching/learning cycle. This assessment is conducted prior to and during teaching and learning. It provides the teacher with an understanding of the prior knowledge, skills, attitudes, interests, and/or needs of the student as well as the range of individual differences. Strengths-Diagnostic assessments provide the teacher with the student's prior knowledge and misconceptions before beginning a learning activity. They also provide a baseline for understanding how much learning has taken place after the learning activity is completed. Weaknesses-Diagnostic assessments are time consuming and may not be ideal for large enrollments such as the specials:Physical Education, Art, and Music. Role of Technology-Diagnostic Assessments can be created to determine a student's level of competence in technology usage.
