Mrs. Bailey's Kindergarten

Mrs. Bailey's Kindergarten Class

May 3rd to May 7th

READING - We will learn the new letter U,u as in the beginning sound in umbrella.  We will be working on rhyme pattern in words.  We will practice sounding out words like cat, dog, man, tag, rat, rug, bog, sit, hip and get.  The children should already know that these words have three letters.  Now we have to learn how to spell by the sounds the letters make.  We will read "What's What" and several Spring stories.  We will learn some new songs and rhymes.    The skills for this week are writing sentences, writing questions, finding the main idea, identifying naming woords, summarizing, end punctuation and writing a description.  We will write a new verse to a song/poem.  We will also be writing about Spring time activities.  We will be making some craft projects for Mother's Day.  If anyone will be donating craft items, recycling silk flowers or greenery we need them no later than Monday, May 3rd.  As always these donations are greatly appreciated.

Math-We will review counting by 1s,2s, 5s, and 10s and writing numbers 1 to 20 daily.  We will review the calendar, practice saying the months, days of the week, and the seasons.  We will be reviewing today, yesterday and tomorrow with the calender discussion daily.  We will review telling time to the hour on a clock each day.   We will continue to work on Chapter 12: Number Patterns to 100.

Reminder to parents:  NO SCHOOL FOR HUFF'S KINDERGARTEN ON TUESDAY, MAY 4TH,  FOR TEAHCER TO ENROLL KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS FOR THE 2010-2011 TERM.  THERE WILL BE SCHOOL FOR GRADES 1 TO 12 ON THAT DAY.  Parents with questions about their child's progress should contact the school at 304-938-3672 to schedule an appointment to visit with their child's teacher.

BUS SAFETY/SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE/CAREER STUDIES-We review bus safety rules daily and children should know their bus numbers and name of their neighborhood.  We recite "The Pledge of Allegience" and sing songs about America daily also.  We will learn about elections and voting over the next few weeks.  We will discuss the weather and seasons each morning.   We will be reading and learning a lot of facts about plants and growing vegetables.

We are learning the number words right now if parents would like to practice them with their child.  These are sight words, just like the list below.  They are not included on the report card list, but would be good to know.  These are:  one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten.

We will be working on the following list of words all year.  You will get notes and/or study guides to let you know what words we are working on each week.  Children need to know how to recognize these words only.  They do not need to know how to write them for something like a spelling test.
