Anatomy/Physiology

Introduce students to the structure (anatomy) of the human body.  Students will learn the organs of seven of the body systems through a hands-on dissection of the cat.  The choice of this animal as a dissection specimen was made for two reasons: first, human cadavers are not appropriate for a high school and the cat is very closely related anatomically; second the teacher feels that a student’s own dissection has more instructional value than mere observation based material.  The students will demonstrate their knowledge through continual, individual demonstrations to the teacher.  Students will be able to see relationship of the body organs to each other and the body as a whole.  The student will demonstrate knowledge of the human body muscles through a series of final exams.  The cat dissection is a requirement of the Anatomy class.
