Introduction Historians have long argued about the legacy of Lincoln, but one one point there is little disagreement. With he possible exception of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln shaped the history of America as no other president. His history is complex. The way his life was presented to the American people was a carefully sculpted view highly influenced by his own choices. He knew how to use the media of newspapers and photography better than any prior president. His decisions about how to hold the Union together during the Civil War are still with us today. He wanted to keep the nation together at all costs. The Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment created permanent statements about abolishing slavery that are still with us today. He was the first president to be assassinated. His early death changed the way America rebulit itself after the horror of the Civil War. All of these things are true, and yet they do not fully capture the influence of Lincoln. Instructions For this assignment you will complete a simple assignment outlining four parts of the Lincoln presidency and the Reconstruction Amendments. You will receive a hard copy of the assignment in class, and you will handwrite the answers on it.
