Entering Kindergarten:

It is difficult to know when your child is ready for kindergarten,

The following skills are essential at the beginning of a successful kindergarten experience:

$ Recites alphabet                         

$ Knows color names

$ Cuts properly with scissors              

$ Holds pencil correctly

$ Able to catch and throw a ball            

$ Counts to 10

$ Draws basic shapes (circle, triangle, square)

$ Recognizes the letters in their first name

$ Recites their first and last name

$ Can listen and focus during a read-aloud

$ Takes care of own bathroom needs

$ Plays with other children respectfully

$ Works cooperatively in a group

$ Respects adult authority

$ Has gotten plenty of sleep each night

$ Has eaten a healthy meal before class
