These are the standards defined by the Minnesota Department of Education. These are the concepts that your 8th grade son/daughter should know by the end of the year.
220.127.116.11 Classify real numbers as rational or irrational. Know that when a square root of a positive integer is not an integer, then it is irrational. Know that the sum of a rational number and an irrational number is irrational, and the product of a non-zero rational number and an irrational number is irrational.
