First Day Homeroom Forms, Reminders, etc.

To my homeroom students and parents:

As you know, I emailed a PDF to you last week containing the typical first day paperwork that you receive  at Somerset Academy Miramar.  While the forms are electronic and the start of the year has been at a distance in a virtual environment, we do plan on returning to a brick-and-mortar school environment at some point this year.  As such, it is important that we have all of these necessary forms completed from all of our parents so that we may operate properly, whether it's from a physical environment or a virtual one.

The requested return date of those forms is Wednesday, August 26, 2020.  Please make sure to upload those forms using the link and directions that I provided as soon as you are able.

Thank you!

My name is Mr. Williams - I will be your 8th grade Science and 8th grade Biology teacher, and 6th grade GEARS Accelerated Science teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.

I have worked at Somerset Academy Miramar since August 2012, and this will be my seventh year as chair of the middle school Science department.  I originally received my Bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University and taught in Broward County public schools for nearly four years.  I returned to FAU to earn my Master of Science in Biology, performing my thesis research on the physiology of newly-emerged sea turtle hatchlings.  While at FAU, I was able to work as a TA and taught multiple lab courses at the college level.

Our goal as a class is to improve ever more as one of the highest-performing schools in Broward County, as we scored in the 88th percentile of all middle schools taking the 8th grade Statewide Science Assessment in 2018-2019; Somerset Academy Miramar Middle was the 11th highest-scoring school in Broward County.  Of course, my personal goal as a teacher is to improve your interests in the fields of Science and encourage you to take the confusion out of a fascinating subject.

Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns at my e-mail address,
