Sharon Rosen A Digital Journey!

Who am I?
I teach 8th Grade Unitied States History at Guidance Charter School in Palmdale, CA.  My dynamic class covers the foundations of America from the earliest explorers to the Civil War and Reconstruction.  In addition to these facinating early years, my students study the Constitution and the foundation of our government.

Why do I teach?
"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world!"

Developing as a professional educator:

Now that I have cleared my credential I plan on becoming a National Board Certified Educator

Having the National Board Certification will not only open a lot of doors for me as a teacher, I will be able to teach in any state.  Should I decide to move back to Tennessee or New York, where my family is I like having this optionl.

What actions can you take to remain a connected educator throughout your career?

There are many ways to be an "connected educator".  Teachers need to network and collaborate in order to hone their craft.  This is something I have already started doing.  By becoming a member of both the California Council for the Social Studies and the National Council for the Social Studies I am connected to a group of innovated, likeminded teachers.

Additionally I am always looking for professional development opportunities and have attended many put on by the Museum of Tolerance and Teaching Tolerance and this summer I am looking forward to taking part in the Summer Economic Institute for Teachers at Stanford.
