Classroom Information

Student Binders

Students will have a binder to transport important papers and information to and from school each day. The binder will contain various items such as lunch menus, newsletters, study guides, graded papers, and homework.  There will also be a KEEP and RETURN section in the binder.  Please make sure to return all papers in the RETURN pocket.



We expect ALL homework assignments to be turned in on time.  If your child is absent, he/she is responsible for turning in missed assignments.   


Graded Papers

Graded papers will come home per each teachers’ schedule/policy.  Sign and return the papers to school the following day.  Student grades should be monitored using the INOW website.  You can obtain “sign-in” information from the school office.  We have provided a direct link for INOW for your convenience on our Second Grade Website.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. 


Progress Reports

Progress reports will be provided for students to take home at the end of the fifth week of each none-week period.  ALL STUDENTS will receive a progress report.  Progress reported must be signed by a parent and returned.


Report Cards

Report cards will be issued at the end of each nine weeks according to the Tallapoosa County School schedule.  The report card will be sent home with your child and needs to be signed and returned the following day.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a conference. 


Parent Teacher Conferences

Conferences may be initiated by a teacher, parent, or administrator.  We will gladly meet with parents during our planning time.  Simply contact your child’s teacher(s) to schedule a date and time.  Unfortunately, our time is very limited during the school day.  Therefore, we are unable to meet without an appointment.  So, please call ahead to schedule a conference.  If you are unable to attend a meeting at the school, we will be glad to conference (in most cases) with you via phone or email instead.  



We will have a daily snack time.  Students will be allowed to have a juice and snack.  Snacks can be brought from home or bought from the snack room each morning.  Students may NOT bring candy, popcorn, or sodas.  If your child’s snack requires a spoon or fork please send it with him/her.  This will be strictly enforced.


Absences/ Make-Up Work

When your child is absent, it is entered into the computer as an unexcused absent. You have three (3) days to send an excuse explaining why he/she was absent. This is EXTREMELY IMORTANT and serves as a protection for you, your child, and the school. If an excuse is not sent within three days, the absence will remain in the computer as an unexcused absence. A student is not entitled to make up assignments missed due to an unexcused absence and therefore, will receive a zero. Absences are deemed excused/unexcused according to the System-Wide Attendance Policy.



We will use a clip system to encourage positive behaviors.   If your child receives a yellow mark 2 points will be deducted from the weekly conduct grade. Orange marks will result in a deduction of 5 points and red marks will result in a deduction of 10 points. Conduct grades will be recorded daily in your child’s home binder.  It is your child's resposibility to record his/her behavior status.  


School Supplies

It is very important that you provide the correct school supplies on the supply list. We are departmentalized in 2nd grade and each supply on the list has a specific use. Please place the supplies in a bag(s) and write your child’s name on the bag ONLY! Please DO NOT write anything on the individual supplies. Teachers will label individual supplies so that everything will be labeled in a uniform fashion based on the intended use. Each student’s name will be marked off the “Supplies Received List” by the homeroom teacher as they are delivered. Therefore, labeling ONLY the bag will serve as a quick reference without anything being mislabeled. Thank you for your cooperation.



When sending money to school with your child, PLEASE MAKE SURE that it is enclosed in an envelope or plastic bag. Also make sure it is labeled with your child’s name, teacher’s name, and the purpose for the money


Changes in Transportation

A note must be sent to school in order to change your child’s mode of transportation. Make sure to clarify the changes such as a bus change (notate which bus) or car rider (specify who your child will be riding with and a contact number). The note will be sent to the office to get a change of transportation pass. Make sure that you specify the dates for which the change applies (ex. just one day, every Tuesday, or a permanent change). Also, MAKE SURE your child understands the transportation change in order to avoid confusion. We CAN NOT allow the change otherwise as it is a safety issue and your child’s safety is the top priority.



Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
